We go on to analyse Indiaâs past performances in T20 World Cup events.

We name three key Indian players. We assess Indiaâs chances of winning the World Cup before naming our favourite team for the competition. Apart from cricket batting tips, we also provide a few important T20 World Cup predictions. We round off the article with a look at the best T20 World Cup betting sites and the odds they offer.
Guide to the T20 World Cup Favourites
In this section of our T20 World Cup predictions, we consider some of the bigger favourites for the title. We have placed them in our order of preference:
1. India
India have announced their squad for the T20 World Cup 2023. There are no surprises barring the exclusion of new ball operator Md Shami. The selectors have also left out Jadeja owing to the all-rounderâs unfortunate knee injury at the Asia Cup. We believe that even in the absence of this duo, India will be the team to beat.
Indiaâs best eleven are Rahul, Sharma, Kohli, Yadav, Hardik, Axar, Karthik, Bhuvneshwar, Bumrah, Arshdeep and Chahal. This combination is strong in all departments. The batting boasts a strong top order followed by three potential finishers. The bowling attack has three frontline fast bowlers and two spinners aided by an additional seamer. If India play to potential, itâs easy to picture Rohit Sharma holding aloft the ICC T20 World Cup trophy on 13 November.

2. Australia
Australia will benefit from home advantage. As hosts, they know the local conditions best. Importantly, they have a squad of injury-free players, many at the top of their game. In Starc, Cummins and Hazlewood, the Aussies have a trio of new ball operators who can compete with the best. Stoinis and Mitchell Marsh can bowl as well. Add the spin of Zampa/Agar and Maxwell to the mix and the team will have seven bowlers to rely on.
Australia have a minor worry in the batting, with skipper/ opening batter Finch not in the best of form. However, in Warner, Marsh, Smith and Maxwell, Australia have some world class players in the middle order. They also have finishers in Stoinis and Wade. More often than not, these Aussies have risen to the occasion.
3. England
In the lead up to T20 World Cup 2023, injury has ruled Bairstow out of the competition. On the positive side, England have several match winners such as Stokes, Moeen Ali, Buttler, and Archer. However, can they perform together as a team? While Royâs axing was overdue, an in-form Hales could yet compensate for Bairstowâs absence.
Archer plays to potential, seamers Jordan and new find Topley could add value on the hard Australian wickets. That said, England will need more than a slice of luck if they are to go beyond the group stage. If they did get to the semi-finals, they could be two inspired days away from the title.
4. Pakistan
Before the Asia Cup, we would have rated Pakistan higher. Skipper Babar Azam had a bad tournament and that told on the team. It also showed us how dependent the Pakistan batting is on just two players â Rizwan is the other one.
With the imminent return — from injury — of Shaheen Afridi to the squad, Pakistan have arguably the most potent new ball trio. If nothing else, Pakistan will give us the delight of watching Afridi, Naseem Shah and Rauf bowling together.
For Pakistan to be able to win the title, they would have to find better middle order batters. Perhaps, Pakistan could pick another batter as Babar Azamâs opening partner and play Rizwan at number three. Can Pakistan go all the way? If they beat either India or South Africa in the group stage, they might get to the semi-final stage. Beyond that, itâs only Pakistan â expect the unexpected!
5. New Zealand
A few months ago, we wouldnât have counted New Zealand among the favourites. However, they have won 9 out of 10 games played in 2023, albeit against weaker teams. The emergence of Glenn Philips in the middle order was just what the doctor ordered.
A solid batting line up, including Guptill, Conway and Williamson, is complemented by a decent bowling attack. Southee, Boult, Santner, Bracewell and Sodhi will relish the prospect of bowling in familiar conditions Down Under. Add the all-round skills of Daryl Mitchell and James Neesham, and we have a seriously competitive outfit.
6. South Africa
The Proteas are the dark horses of T20 World Cup 2023, and with good reason. Their recent performances versus England and Ireland have been brilliant. They bat deep, right up to number nine. In-form batters like Hendricks, Rossouw and Markram complement the likes of old warhorses de Kock, Van der Dussen and Miller.
Even without Rabada, the bowling was strong enough to ensure four consecutive wins. With both Rabada and Nortje set to return, South Africa have the bowling firepower to challenge for the title.

India at the 2023 T20 World Cup
In this segment of our T20 World Cup predictions, we look at Indiaâs previous performances at the T20 World Cup:
2007 in South Africa: India beat Pakistan in the final to win the inaugural competition.
2009 in England: India exited the competition after losing to South Africa, West Indies and England, in their Super 8 group.
2010 in West Indies: India were shown the door after they lost to Australia, West Indies and Sri Lanka in the Super 8 group stage.
2012 in Sri Lanka: With a poorer Net Run Rate than Australia and Pakistan, India failed to go past the Super 8 stage.
2014 in Bangladesh: India lost to Sri Lanka in the final.
2016 in India: India lost in the semi-finals to the eventual champions West Indies.
2021 in UAE: India exited the tournament after losing to Pakistan and South Africa in the Super 12 group stage.
After winning the inaugural competition, India have not always performed to potential. In T20 World Cup 2021, India did not go past the group stage. A poor definition of player roles was the reason for the poor show. There was no clarity as to who would anchor the innings, and who would slog. Invariably, the top order failed, and the team did not have a finisher down the order. Hardik Pandyaâs inability to bowl a full quota hurt India, as did Virat Kohliâs poor run with the bat.
Ahead of T20 World Cup 2023, India appear to have sorted out these issues. The inclusion of Suryakumar Yadav and Dinesh Karthik has raised expectations. India will enter T20 World Cup 2023 as one of the top eight seeded teams. They have qualified automatically for the Super 12 stage on the back of their world ranking.
Indiaâs biggest match up will happen in their opening game against Pakistan. In our India vs Pakistan predictions, we believe that India will extend their world cup winning record against Pakistan. Thereafter, Rohit Sharmaâs wards will have to contend with another strong team in the form of South Africa.

Who will win the T20 World Cup 2023
Our T20 World Cup predictions would be incomplete if we did not name a potential winner. We believe that India will pick up their second T20 World Cup title that they first won in 2007. On the flip side, India will be without Jadeja, out with an injury. Also, we would have preferred to see Md Shami operate on Australian wickets. However, the current squad has enough firepower to help make them champions for a second time.
Who will score the most runs?
Itâs time to turn our T20 World Cup predictions to naming the players we expect will score the most runs. The following are the batters that we recommend to bet on:
– Virat Kohli: Indiaâs biggest gain at the recently concluded Asia Cup tournament was Kohliâs welcome return to form. The former India skipper registered his 71st international century, his first three-figure knock in three years. With 276 runs in five innings, Kohli had the highest run-aggregate in the Asia Cup.
– M Rizwan: Pakistanâs wicketkeeper is arguably the most consistent run scorer in T20 international cricket. With an average of over 51, Rizwan is the worldâs number one ranked T20I batter. His sheer consistency can be gauged from the fact that he has registered 17 50-plus knocks in his last 34 innings.
Who will be the highest wicket taker?
Who are our favourites to take the most wickets at the tournament? We would prefer bowlers with a penchant for taking wickets in the powerplay overs. In this part of our T20 World Cup predictions, we believe that the following bowlers will be among the highest wicket takers:
– Bhuvneshwar Kumar: Indiaâs new ball bowler has proved his effectiveness in the powerplay overs. Equally, he has proved less effective in the death overs. So, India might choose to bowl out Bhuvneshwarâs overs at the start. India did so against Afghanistan in the Asia Cup with remarkable success. Bhuvneshwar took 5 wickets while conceding only 4 runs in that game.
– Josh Hazlewood: Like Bhuvneshwar, Australiaâs new ball operator Hazlewood is a consistent wicket taker in the powerplay overs. Unlike Bhuvneshwar, Josh is effective in every spell. Additionally, he is very familiar with the home playing conditions. With Australia likely to go past the group stage, Hazlewood will have many wicket taking opportunities.

Who will be the player of the tournament?
The player of the tournament is likely to be an all-rounder. In our T20 World Cup predictions, we have selected two likely candidates, one each from India and Australia:
– Hardik Pandya: Hardikâs all-round performance will be key to Indiaâs showing at the competition.
– Glenn Maxwell: Maxwell has shown that he can complement his big hitting with an ability to take wickets.
