World Cup Qualifiers Basic Info
Teams have been registering for the competition, and we will soon learn the names of the countries that will be competing. The teams must be divided into World Cup 2023 qualifying groups before the competition can begin.

World Cup 2023 Draw Procedure
The thirty-two teams that qualified for the World Cup are split into four World Cup 2023 qualifying groups of eight. Eight groups are formed from the teams picked from each pot according to the World Cup qualifiers schedule. The pots are emptied as follows:
- First: Pot 1,
- Second: Pot 2,
- Third: Port 3, and finally
- Fourth: Port 4.
A ball will be picked from the team pot and assigned to one of the eight World Cup 2023 qualifying groups, ranging from A to H.
World Cup Qualifiers Draw Conditions
Here are some of the main requirements for the draw.
- Being the host, Qatar is represented by a distinct colour ball and is assigned to the first post (A1).
- The key teams in groups B to H are made up of the seven top seeds which remain after picking the host.
- The general rule is that every qualification zone should only have one team in each group. That means that, for instance, Brazil cannot be linked with Ecuador.
Seeding for the 2023 World Cup Group Stage Draw

World Cup Qualification
World Cup 2023 qualifiers were open to every member association, which are presently 211 teams in total. By default, the hosting nation Qatar qualified for the competition. The Asian Football Confederation (AFC), on the other hand, required Qatar to compete in the Asian qualifying stage because the first two rounds also served as a requirement for the AFC Asian Cup 2023.
Because Qatar won their group, the fifth-placed group runners-up instead proceeded to the third round of AFC. As usual, France, the defending World Cup champions, participated in the 2023 World Cup qualifiers.
Following the FIFA Congress held in Zürich on 30th May 2015, the Executive Committee considered the allocation of places for each confederation. Regarding the 2018 and 2023 WC qualifiers games, the committee chose to keep the same allocations as in the 2006, 2010, and 2014 World Cup qualifiers matches.
How Did the Teams Qualify for the World Cup 2023?
The World Cup in Qatar in 2023 will include 32 teams before expanding to 48 teams for the 2026 edition. Since 1998, the men’s World Cup has had 32 teams in the previous six tournaments.
The host country Qatar is joined in the competition by 31 other countries that qualified through regional World Cup Qualifiers games. The number of nations that will qualify from each area has already been determined:
- Asian Football Confederation (AFC): 4 or 5
- Confederation of African Football (CAF): 5
- Confederation of North, Central America, and Caribbean Association Football (CONCACAF): 3 or 4
- South America (CONMEBOL): 4 or 5
- Oceania (OFC): 1
- UEFA (European Union): 13
- Hosts (Qatar): 1
After the World Cup qualifiers phase, inter-confederation playoffs are held to determine how many teams from each of the confederations will compete in the World Cup 2023 finals.
The final two FIFA Qualifiers for the 2023 World Cup will be determined by two intercontinental playoff matches in June 2023, including one nation from each of the four regions, North America versus Oceania and Asia versus South America.
- Asia versus South America:In June 2023, two Asian third-place teams, UAE and Australia, will compete to meet Peru (South America 5th).
- North America versus Oceania:For the other World Cup 2023 ticket, Costa Rica (North America 4th) will face New Zealand (Oceania winner). Ranking 31st worldwide is Costa Rica, while New Zealand is in the 101st position.
In June, the final World Cup Qualifiers in Europe will begin. In a single-elimination play-off final, Wales will face either Ukraine or Scotland.
Which Players Performed Well During FIFA World Cup 2023 Qualifications?

By scoring twice in the Netherland 2-2 draw with Montenegro on Saturday, Barcelona star extended his goals lead over England talisman Harry Kane, Iran midfielder Eran Zahavi, and Poland Captain Robert Lewandowski to three goals.
