Recap of Season 10

Sydney Sixers won the BBL title in season 10, beating Perth Scorchers by 27 runs in the final. Earlier, Heat beat Thunder by 7 wickets in the Knockout. Scorchers beat Heat in the Challenger by 39 runs to qualify for the title clash. In the first Qualifier, Sixers had prevailed over Scorchers by 9 wickets to book their place in the final.

Scorchers and Thunder Have Virtually Qualified

Concentrating again on season 11 and with seven wins, Scorchers and Thunder have sufficiently qualified for the playoffs. They have registered 9 and 8 wins respectively. Defending champions Sixers have won 6 out of 10 games played, whereas Hurricanes have won 5 out of 11.

The Sixers need to aim for at least one more win on their remaining matches, while the Hurricanes must win at least two more. We believe that these targets are achievable.

Who will be the Fifth Qualifier?

Brisbane Heat, Melbourne Renegades, Adelaide Strikers, and Melbourne Stars are competing for the fifth slot in the playoffs. Of the four, Stars appear the best placed, with 3 wins from 8 games played. Stars have remaining matches against Scorchers, Renegades, Strikers, Heat, and Hurricanes.

By our estimation, Stars can qualify by beating Heat, Renegades, and Strikers. Those results would dent their rivals for the fifth spot, even if Stars ended up losing to Strikers and Hurricanes. However, those wins could be easier said than done as Renegades beat Stars in the previous meeting between the sides.

Who do Betting Odds favour?

Perth Scorchers are bookmakers’ favourite team for the BBL title in season 11. They attract average odds of 6/4 among the major bookies.

Next on the list are Sydney Thunder, who are quoted on average at 11/4. Defending champions are in third place at 7/2. Hobart Hurricanes are in fourth place with 11/2. While Melbourne Stars are quoted at 14/1, Adelaide Strikers attract odds of 25/1. Melbourne Renegades are a rung below in seventh place at 25/1. Bringing up the rear, Brisbane Heat are the least favoured with odds of 45/1.
