The Premier League season has come to an end and now the summer transfer window is getting closer, which is why a lot of rumours will keep coming in the near future.

Two players that are expected to be talked a lot about are Harry Maguire and Joao Felix. Maguire might leave Man United due to lack of game time and Felix will for sure leave Chelsea but his future is still yet to be decided.

We sat down to talk with the former Liverpool and Newcastle player, John Barnes, who shared his thoughts on the two Premier League players.

Maguire would be a great signing for Newcastle

John Barnes´ former club Newcastle, has been mentioned as a possible destination for Man United defender, Harry Maguire. Barnes thinks that he would be a great fit at Newcastle.

“I think Maguire can have a better time at Newcastle. I think so.”

“Because of course, you look at him when he plays for England and of course Harry always plays and Gareth Southgate loves him in the team.”

“It just hasn’t worked for him at Man Utd and once it doesn’t work, it’s going to be difficult for the fans to back him. Once he’s got this perception, no matter how well you do for England or elsewhere, it will be difficult for him to do that at Man Utd.”

“I think Maguire would be a great signing for Newcastle. He’s English, he’s a main player for the national side and he’d be a good signing for Newcastle if it comes off.”

Joao Felix could have been a success at Chelsea

As mentioned before, Joao Felix will definitely leave Chelsea, and we asked Barnes about what he made of Felix and his opinion on why it didn’t turn out as the greatest success.

“I think he could have been a Premier League success with Chelsea.”

“The fact is that Chelsea need a centre-forward. So I don’t think they can afford to spend that amount of money on him, transfer fee and salary wise, when their top priority is a centre-forward.”

“Had they had a centre-forward, he would be a perfect player to play alongside a centre-forward. So it has nothing to do with him but it’s more because they have priorities somewhere else.”

“In an inconsistent Chelsea team I think he’s done well as anybody else and he’s a fantastic player as a number 10. But they don’t need a number 10 at the moment.”

“I don’t think he’s been Chelsea’s worst player.”
