Arsenal bids farewell to Arteta’s signing as the forward completes a heartfelt return home.

Arsenal bids farewell to Arteta’s signing as the forward completes a heartfelt return home.

Arsenal Waves Goodbye to Marquinhos as Cruzeiro Seals Permanent Deal

In a surprising turn of events, Arsenal has decided to part ways with one of Mikel Arteta’s earlier signings, Brazilian winger Marquinhos. The young talent is set to return to his home country permanently, marking the end of a mixed stint in North London.

Since taking the reins at Arsenal, Arteta has brought in over 30 players, with varying degrees of success. While Declan Rice has become a cornerstone of the team, others, like Pablo Mari, have struggled to make an impact. Marquinhos, unfortunately, falls into the latter category.

A Promising Start That Fizzled Out

Marquinhos joined Arsenal in 2022 as a promising young winger, but his time at the club has been underwhelming. He made just six senior appearances, contributing one goal and one assist. All of his action came during the 2022-23 season, after which he was sent on loan to Norwich, followed by Nantes, and later Fluminense in Brazil.

Earlier this year, he joined Cruzeiro on a season-long loan, with an option to buy for approximately £2.5 million. According to The Standard, Cruzeiro has decided to exercise that option, confirming Marquinhos’ permanent departure from Arsenal.

Arteta’s Search for a New Winger

With Marquinhos now out of the picture, Arteta is reportedly keen on bolstering his wide options. The Gunners have been linked with a move for Athletic Club’s Nico Williams, though reports suggest he may opt to renew his contract in Spain. Another target, Bryan Mbeumo, appears to favor a move to Manchester United, leaving Arsenal’s pursuit in doubt.

While the search for a winger continues, Arsenal’s primary focus seems to be on strengthening their attacking midfield position. Both Viktor Gyokeres and Benjamin Sesko are high on the club’s wishlist, though it remains unclear which player Arteta prefers.

A Summer of Changes at the Emirates

Marquinhos’ exit is just the beginning of what promises to be a busy transfer window for Arsenal. With players coming and going, Arteta is reshaping his squad to mount a stronger challenge in the upcoming season.
