Barcelona remains unfazed by Liverpool’s Diaz rejection, seeing it as a tactical negotiation play.

Barcelona, the La Liga titans, remain undeterred after Liverpool rebuffed their initial advances for star winger Luis Diaz, according to recent reports. The Catalan club is determined to bolster their left wing this summer, with sporting director Deco openly naming Diaz and Manchester United’s Marcus Rashford as prime targets.

In an interview with RAC1 back in May, Deco revealed, “We admire Luis [Diaz], we admire [Marcus] Rashford, and we admire other players. Our goal is to bring in talent that can elevate the team.”

Responding to Deco’s comments, Liverpool’s new boss, Arne Slot, maintained his composure. “Each club has its own protocol. I prefer not to discuss players from other clubs unless we’ve secured them,” Slot stated. “I understand Deco’s admiration for Diaz—he’s a phenomenal player having an outstanding season. I’m equally impressed by Lamine Yamal and Raphinha.”

Despite Barcelona’s evident interest, Diaz himself has poured cold water on the rumors. Speaking on Thursday, the Colombian winger expressed his contentment at Anfield. “I’m incredibly happy at Liverpool. From day one, they’ve made me feel at home,” Diaz said. “We’re in discussions with clubs, which is normal during the transfer window. I’m weighing my options, but if Liverpool doesn’t present a compelling offer, I’m more than willing to stay. I have two years left on my contract, and I’m focused on what’s best for my future.”

Sky Sports recently confirmed that Liverpool had firmly rejected Barcelona’s approach. The Athletic’s David Ornstein added that Barcelona initiated contact on Wednesday, only for Liverpool to make it unequivocally clear that Diaz is not for sale.

However, Spanish outlet Marca reports that Barcelona remains unfazed by Liverpool’s stance. The La Liga champions view Liverpool’s refusal as a potential negotiation tactic to drive up the price. They are reportedly still exploring the possibility of signing Diaz, undeterred by the initial setback.
