The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) has unveiled the squads for the much-anticipated white-ball series against the West Indies, kicking off on May 29 in Birmingham. This series marks a new chapter for English cricket, with Harry Brook stepping into the spotlight as the full-time white-ball captain, taking over the reins from Jos Buttler.
In a surprising twist, spin maestro Tom Hartley makes a comeback to the ODI squad after last featuring for England in September 2023. However, it’s not all good news for fans of Liam Livingstone, who has been axed from both the ODI and T20I squads following a prolonged slump in form. Phil Salt also misses out on ODI selection after a lackluster Champions Trophy campaign, while Liam Dawson earns a well-deserved T20I recall, having dazzled for Hampshire last summer.
The squads feature a mix of familiar faces and rising stars, with several players—Will Jacks, Tom Banton, Jamie Overton, Saqib Mahmood, Jacob Bethell, Adil Rashid, and Matthew Potts—set to showcase their skills in both formats. Brydon Carse also returns to the fray after missing the one-off Test against Zimbabwe and the Champions Trophy.
Adding to the excitement, left-arm seamer Luke Wood makes his T20I return for the first time since September 2023. Meanwhile, Jofra Archer will focus solely on the ODI squad, joining forces with Hartley, Joe Root, Jamie Smith, and Gus Atkinson.
ODI Squad:
