In a move that has sent shockwaves through the cricketing world, Yashasvi Jaiswal, the prodigious left-handed batter, has decided to bid farewell to Mumbai and embrace a new chapter with Goa. The 23-year-old, who began his cricketing journey as a teenager with Mumbai, has been one of their most consistent performers since his debut. His decision to switch allegiances has left fans and pundits alike scratching their heads.
Just a few days ago, Jaiswal formally requested a No Objection Certificate (NOC) from the Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) via email, signaling his intent to make the move. The MCA, in a gesture of goodwill, approved his request, marking the end of his tenure with the Mumbai side.
MCA President Ajinkya Naik Weighs In
In an exclusive conversation with Indiabet, MCA president Ajinkya Naik shared his thoughts on Jaiswal’s surprising decision. “All cricketers are respected by the MCA. As the apex council, we are constantly striving to provide them with the best possible support. We ensure that all necessary facilities are made available and fully respect the choices they make. To date, we have extended full support in terms of infrastructure, resources, and recognition. We remain committed to doing everything within our power to help them excel, both for Mumbai and for the nation,” Naik stated.
It is believed that Jaiswal’s move to Goa was driven by the allure of a leadership role. With seasoned players like Ajinkya Rahane, Shreyas Iyer, and Suryakumar Yadav already established as leaders in the Mumbai setup, Jaiswal’s chances of captaining the side were slim. Goa, on the other hand, reportedly offered him the captaincy, a role he has reportedly accepted with open arms.
In the ongoing IPL 2025 season, Jaiswal has shown glimpses of his old self after a sluggish start. His crucial knock of 67 off 45 balls against the Punjab Kings was instrumental in securing his team’s second win of the tournament. So far, he has amassed 101 runs in four matches, with scores of 1, 29, 4, and 67.
