Liverpool are reportedly making waves in the transfer market as they aim to secure a blockbuster deal for Napoli’s star striker, Victor Osimhen, in what could be a sensational swap deal. The Reds have already been active this summer, acquiring Jeremie Frimpong and Armin Pecsi, and are on the verge of finalizing moves for Florian Wirtz and Milos Kerkez. These signings could push their summer spending beyond the £200 million mark, but the drama doesn’t end there.
With Darwin Nunez, Federico Chiesa, Luis Diaz, Andy Robertson, and Harvey Elliott all linked with exits, Liverpool may need to sell to fund further reinforcements. However, with over £100 million already invested in Wirtz, the club’s budget for a marquee striker signing hangs in the balance. Sporting Lisbon’s Viktor Gyokeres and RB Leipzig’s Benjamin Sesko have been floated as potential targets, but Eintracht Frankfurt’s Hugo Ekitike has emerged as a “concrete” option, according to transfer guru Fabrizio Romano.
Romano revealed, “With Darwin leaving, Ekitike is a concrete target for Liverpool. The club has been in regular contact with people close to the player since May, and he remains firmly on their radar.”
Despite interest in Ekitike, Osimhen remains a tantalizing prospect. The Nigerian international has reportedly turned down a lucrative move to Saudi Pro League side Al-Hilal, leaving Napoli eager to offload him. With a £63 million release clause, Osimhen’s next destination is still up in the air, though Premier League clubs, including Liverpool, are circling.
Journalist Rudy Galetti, reporting for TEAMtalk, claims Liverpool have initiated talks over a potential swap deal involving Osimhen. The Reds are reportedly ready to include Nunez and Chiesa in the negotiation, signaling their serious intent to land the prolific striker. A private meeting has already taken place, and a direct channel of communication with Napoli has been established, though the deal remains complex.
Galetti adds, “Liverpool have made contact with Osimhen’s entourage. The striker is open to joining a Champions League club, and Liverpool’s participation in the competition is a significant factor. However, his hefty salary demands could prove a hurdle. Selling Nunez and Chiesa could free up £15 million annually, easing the financial burden.”
As the transfer saga unfolds, Liverpool fans are bracing for a potentially transformative window. Could Osimhen be the missing piece in Arne Slot’s puzzle? Only time will tell, but one thing is clear: the Reds are leaving no stone unturned in their quest for reinforcements.
