Liverpool FC, the reigning Premier League champions, have made it clear that they have no plans to part ways with their star forward Luis Diaz, despite growing interest from Barcelona. The Colombian winger played a pivotal role in the Reds’ triumphant campaign last season, netting 13 goals and dishing out seven assists in 36 league appearances.
Under the guidance of Arne Slot in his debut season, Liverpool dominated the league with ease, and the club is now fully committed to defending their title in the 2025/26 campaign. The Merseyside giants have already flexed their financial muscle this summer, breaking their club record to secure the £100million-plus signing of German attacking maestro Florian Wirtz. They’ve also bolstered their defensive options with the acquisitions of Jeremie Frimpong and Milos Kerkez.
With funds still available after a relatively quiet 2024 transfer window, Liverpool aren’t done yet. A new striker is reportedly on the agenda, with Darwin Nunez potentially making way amid interest from Napoli. Eintracht Frankfurt’s Hugo Ekitike has emerged as a potential replacement for the Uruguayan forward.
Meanwhile, Diaz’s future has become a hot topic of discussion. The 28-year-old has attracted attention from European heavyweights Barcelona, Bayern Munich, and clubs in the Saudi Pro League. Barcelona’s interest appears genuine, though they are also eyeing Nico Williams from Athletic Bilbao as an alternative target. Reports from Spain suggest that the La Liga champions have already approached Liverpool regarding Diaz and that the player has personally reached out to express his desire to join the Catalan giants.
However, Liverpool’s stance is firm. According to Mail Sport, selling Diaz is a ‘no-go’ for the Reds, who have no intention of letting him leave. While no formal offers have been tabled yet, the club is bracing itself for potential bids, especially from Saudi Arabian side Al Nassr or Bayern Munich, who are on the hunt for a new left-winger.
Bayern’s search for reinforcements has also seen them linked with Manchester United’s Marcus Rashford and Nico Williams. However, both players reportedly prefer a move to Barcelona, leaving Diaz as a key target for the Bavarian club. Despite the ongoing speculation, Barcelona remain the only team to have formally contacted Liverpool about the Colombian.
As the transfer saga unfolds, Liverpool are also focusing on other potential outgoings. The club is reportedly waiting for Napoli to make a bid for Darwin Nunez, while interest in Harvey Elliott is building from German clubs.
