Man Utd greenlights £29m Real Madrid deal, but fans must wait until May 25 for the final move.

Manchester United and Real Madrid are reportedly exploring a creative swap deal involving Benfica’s promising left-back Alvaro Carreras that could provide a win-win situation for both clubs. However, the Premier League giants find themselves in a tricky spot this season, as their struggles on the domestic front continue to make headlines.

Manchester United’s Premier League campaign has been nothing short of disastrous. Sitting at a staggering 16th in the table, the Red Devils have endured an eight-match winless streak, with only four teams in the league scoring fewer goals. Despite this dismal domestic form, United still have a glimmer of hope in Europe. Surprisingly, they could secure a spot in next season’s Champions League if they manage to defeat Tottenham in the Europa League final on Wednesday at the San Mames Stadium in Bilbao. Qualification for Europe’s elite competition could significantly reshape their summer transfer plans, as the club reportedly needs to offload players before making new additions.

According to Spanish outlet *Defensa Central*, Manchester United and Real Madrid are orchestrating a deal that could ease Benfica’s financial demands for Carreras. Real Madrid are keen on signing the talented left-back, and United are willing to play a pivotal brokerage role in the negotiations. Benfica has set a €50 million release clause for Carreras, but Real Madrid are eager to bring that figure down. In a twist of strategy, Manchester United could activate a €18 million buy-back clause they inserted in Carreras’ contract when he left for Benfica.

The Red Devils would then reportedly sell Carreras to Real Madrid for €35 million, effectively pocketing a tidy profit while aiding Madrid’s pursuit of the player. This move could benefit both clubs financially, with United navigating the deal to their advantage.

However, talks over Carreras’ transfer are expected to remain on hold until at least May 25, as the Portuguese club is preparing for its domestic cup final. Until then, Benfica will focus on ending their season on a high note.

Meanwhile, Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim is under increasing pressure following the team’s dismal Premier League form. Speaking after another disappointing loss to Chelsea recently, Amorim acknowledged the struggles but urged everyone to look forward. “We know where we stand,” he stated. “This season has been tough, but we need to focus on the Europa League final and aim for silverware. Our goal is to prepare for next season and come back stronger.”

As the summer transfer window approaches, all eyes will be on how Manchester United and Real Madrid navigate their strategies, with Alvaro Carreras potentially becoming a key figure in their plans.
