Manchester United’s Bold Moves: Mbeumo’s Arrival Shakes Up Attack
Manchester United are making waves in the transfer market, and the potential signing of Bryan Mbeumo could spell a seismic shift in their attacking lineup. According to a transfer insider, this move might limit Amad Diallo’s role as the Red Devils look to overhaul their faltering front line after a disappointing Premier League campaign.
Last season, United’s struggles were glaring, finishing a dismal 15th and scoring just 44 goals in 38 games. To address this, they’ve already secured Matheus Cunha, and Mbeumo could be next. The Brentford star netted an impressive 20 goals last season, and United are reportedly leading the race for his signature, with Tottenham stepping back after deeming the deal “impossible” to compete with.
Amad Diallo’s New Role: From Attack to Wing-Back?
While Mbeumo’s arrival could bolster United’s attack, it may come at the expense of Amad Diallo’s current position. Transfer insider Graeme Bailey hinted that Diallo could transition to a right wing-back role, echoing a shift seen under Ruben Amorim’s system. “Amad probably knows he’s heading towards playing the right wing-back role,” Bailey stated.
Bailey elaborated, “In Amorim’s first game against Ipswich Town, that’s where Amad played. Wing-back in Amorim’s system isn’t the traditional English football role—it’s more dynamic. With Cunha and Mbeumo incoming, and Joshua Zirkzee still in the mix, Amad’s chances of playing as an attacking midfielder next season seem limited.”
Yet, Bailey sees potential in this change. “Amad has played that role before and excelled. If executed correctly, he could become an immense threat from the wing-back position, just like Geovany Quenda at Sporting.”
Diallo’s Track Record: A Star in Transition
Diallo was joint-top scorer for United last season, netting eight goals and providing eight assists. While many of these contributions came from attacking positions, his versatility shone through. His hat-trick against Southampton, where he started as a wing-back, proved his adaptability.
As United reshape their squad, Diallo’s ability to thrive in multiple roles could prove invaluable. While his attacking midfield days may be numbered, his potential as a wing-back offers a new dimension to his game.
