Mumbai City retires jersey number 29 as Bipin Singh bids farewell.

Mumbai City has officially announced the departure of Binyamin Singh, whose contract is set to expire on May 31, 2025. In a heartfelt tribute to his significant contributions, the club has decided to retire his jersey number 29, a symbol of his legacy with the team.

Hailing from Manipur, Singh joined the Islanders in 2018 after stints with Shillong Lajong and ATK. Over the years, he became a cornerstone of the club’s success, playing a pivotal role in their triumphs. During his tenure, Singh helped Mumbai City secure two Indian Super League (ISL) titles and two ISL Shields, cementing his place in the club’s history.

One of his most memorable moments came during the 2020-21 season, when Mumbai City became the first team to win both the ISL Cup and the Shield in the same season. His match-winning goal in the final against ATK Mohan Bagan remains etched in the annals of ISL history. Singh’s brilliance continued into the 2023-24 season, where he once again delivered a decisive goal in the final, adding another ISL Cup to his collection. He was also part of the squad that clinched the League Shield in the 2022-23 season.

With 158 appearances and 28 goals, Singh departs as Mumbai City’s most-capped player

Reflecting on his journey, Singh shared, “It’s hard to say goodbye, but I leave with nothing but gratitude in my heart. Mumbai City has been my home for seven unforgettable years. This club has given me everything. To the fans, teammates, staff, and everyone who has been part of this journey, thank you for the love and belief. Mumbai City will always be a part of me.”

Kandarp Chandra, CEO of Mumbai City, expressed his sentiments, saying, “Binyamin’s journey with Mumbai City has been truly special. Over the years, he has made a meaningful impact on and off the pitch, delivering key moments and showing unwavering commitment to the club. His connection with our fans and his contributions to our success speak for themselves. As we bid farewell, with immense gratitude and pride, retiring the number 29 jersey is a small gesture to honor everything he has meant to us and the legacy he leaves behind. He will always have a place in the Mumbai City family.”

Sujay Sharma, Director of Football at Mumbai City, added, “Binyamin has been a pillar of our squad through the most historic moments in the club’s timeline. His key goal contributions over the years, coupled with his positive team spirit on and off the pitch, have been invaluable. We thank him for everything he has done for the club and wish him and his family the very best in their future endeavors as he embarks on the next chapter of his career.”
