In a dramatic twist of events, the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has decided to recall left-arm spinner Nasum Ahmed from the UAE following the resolution of visa issues plaguing leg spinner Rishad Hossain and fast bowler Nahid Rana. The duo had been stranded at Dubai International Airport for three grueling days due to invalid entry visas, casting a shadow over Bangladeshās preparations for their T20I series against the UAE.
Nasum was hastily flown to Dubai on Friday, May 16, as a contingency plan while the team anxiously awaited updates on the visa situation. Thankfully, by Friday night, the clouds lifted as the visa problems were resolved, allowing Rishad and Nahid to finally join the national squad ahead of their opening T20I clash with the UAE.
Shahriar Nafees, BCBās cricket operations in-charge, confirmed the news on Saturday, May 17, stating, āNasum will be arriving here tomorrow. Given the visa-related confusion, we sent Nasum to the UAE as a backup. Now that Rishad and Nahid have joined the team, Nasum will return home.ā
Nafees also revealed that seasoned left-arm seamer Mustafizur Rahman would only be available for the first game, adding, āIt was a contingency plan. With the visa issues and Mustafizurās limited availability, Nasum was our safety net.ā
Nasum, who was part of the Bangladesh āAā team in Sylhet, had been called up as a backup but did not feature in the fourth-day match against New Zealand āAā.
The first T20I in Sharjah saw the UAE win the toss and opt to bowl first. Despite an early setback with the dismissal of Tanzid Hasan, Bangladeshās innings was steadied by a scintillating century from Parvez Hossain Emon, supported ably by Litton Das. The duo propelled Bangladesh to a respectable 55/2 in the powerplay. With disciplined bowling, Bangladesh clinched victory by 27 runs, setting the tone for the series.
