The Punjab Kings (PBKS) experienced their first setback in the IPL 2025 season after a promising start with two consecutive victories. Rajasthan Royals (RR) handed them a crushing 50-run defeat in Mullanpur, showcasing their dominance. Chasing a daunting target of 206, PBKS faltered, managing only 155/9 in their allotted 20 overs. While Nehal Wadhera showed glimpses of resistance, the rest of the batting lineup failed to rise to the occasion.
One of the players who struggled amidst the collapse was 22-year-old all-rounder Suryansh Shedge. Hailing from Mumbai, Shedge managed just two runs off four deliveries before falling prey to Sandeep Sharma’s precision.
Who is Suryansh Shedge?
Suryansh Shedge is steadily carving out a niche for himself in Indian domestic cricket. He was part of the Mumbai squad that clinched the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy (SMAT), where he shared the dressing room with his current PBKS captain, Shreyas Iyer. Known for his explosive power-hitting and handy bowling skills, Shedge has emerged as a promising finisher for Mumbai leading into the IPL.
This domestic season, Shedge has been in scintillating form, amassing 131 runs in nine T20 matches at a jaw-dropping strike rate of 251.92 and an average of 43.66. Additionally, he has contributed with the ball, claiming eight wickets in those games. His name isn’t new to the IPL either. Shedge was previously signed by Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) in IPL 2023 as a late replacement for Jaydev Unadkat, though he didn’t get a chance to feature in the playing XI.
How much did PBKS pay for Shedge in the IPL 2025 auction?
PBKS secured Shedge’s services for his base price of INR 30 lakh during the IPL 2025 auction. In an interview with India Today, Shedge revealed his admiration for Virat Kohli, stating, “I am a big fan of Virat Kohli. I love his mentality. He just wants to win matches, wherever he bats, in India or overseas. He just wants to win.”
