IPL 2025: Prasidh Krishna Reveals How Saliva Rule Change Transformed Reverse Swing
The Gujarat Titans’ pace sensation, Prasidh Krishna, has opened up about the game-changing impact of the saliva rule in the ongoing IPL 2025 season. The return of this age-old practice has breathed new life into fast bowling, allowing bowlers to master the art of reverse swing and keep batters on their toes.
The International Cricket Council (ICC) had initially banned the use of saliva to shine the ball during the COVID-19 pandemic, a restriction that carried over into the IPL. However, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) lifted the ban ahead of this season, much to the delight of bowlers. Veteran pacer Mohammed Shami had previously highlighted the significance of saliva in achieving reverse swing, and now, stars like Prasidh Krishna, Mitchell Starc, Mukesh Kumar, and Prince Yadav are reaping the benefits.
Saliva: A Game-Changer for Bowlers
Speaking candidly at the JioStar press room, Prasidh emphasized the tactical advantage saliva brings to the game. “It has definitely made a difference,” he said. “Even if it impacts just one of the 120 balls you bowl, that single delivery could result in a wicket or a crucial dot ball.”
He elaborated on the domino effect of such moments: “If that breakthrough comes at a critical juncture, like dismissing a set batter, it can slow the run rate and shift momentum back in favor of the bowling side. It’s a chain reaction that has undoubtedly helped bowlers this season.”
Prasidh’s words are backed by his stellar performance in IPL 2025. With 16 wickets to his name, he sits second on the Purple Cap leaderboard, just behind Josh Hazlewood, who has 18 scalps. Against his former team, the Rajasthan Royals (RR), Prasidh will be aiming to deliver another match-winning spell and reclaim the top spot in the race for the Purple Cap.
