Rain played spoilsport at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad as the clash between SunRisers Hyderabad (SRH) and Delhi Capitals (DC) was abandoned after just 20 overs of action. Despite the truncated game, there was plenty of drama to savor as Pat Cummins triggered a top-order collapse before Ashutosh Sharma and Tristan Stubbs led Delhi Capitals’ recovery. Both teams shared a point, but the result officially ended SRH’s playoff dreams.
Delhi Capitals, meanwhile, remain in the hunt for a playoff spot, sitting fifth with 13 points. They need to win at least two of their remaining three matches to stay alive in the race for a top-four finish.
DC’s innings got off to a disastrous start, losing four wickets for just 26 runs—marking the second-lowest Powerplay score of the season. Cummins was the wrecker-in-chief, delivering a masterclass in fast bowling. He struck with his very first ball, removing Karun Nair for a duck. Faf du Plessis and Abishek Porel soon followed, both falling victim to Cummins’ relentless accuracy. Remarkably, each of his first three overs began with a wicket.
Jaydev Unadkat complemented Cummins perfectly, maintaining tight lines and denying DC any momentum. Harshal Patel chipped in with his trademark slower ball to dismiss Axar Patel. The pitch proved tricky for batsmen, as even KL Rahul struggled to get going before falling to an innocuous delivery.
Tristan Stubbs and Ashutosh Sharma spearheaded DC’s fightback, adding a crucial 66-run partnership for the seventh wicket. Ashutosh, playing as the Impact Player, smashed 41 off just 26 balls to give Delhi Capitals a fighting total before the rain intervened.
