Tottenham feel assured they’ll beat Man City to their target after shock release clause emerges.

Tottenham feel assured they’ll beat Man City to their target after shock release clause emerges.

Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly brimming with confidence as they edge closer to securing the signature of Nottingham Forest’s midfield maestro, Morgan Gibbs-White. The 25-year-old sensation, who has been a revelation for Forest, is believed to have a release clause in his contract, paving the way for a potential blockbuster move.

Gibbs-White’s stellar performances last season were instrumental in Nottingham Forest’s impressive seventh-place finish in the Premier League. With seven goals and ten assists in 34 appearances, he not only electrified the pitch but also earned his England debut in September, cementing his status as one of the league’s most promising talents.

According to David Ornstein of The Athletic, Spurs have shifted their focus to Gibbs-White after finalizing a deal for West Ham’s Mohammed Kudus. The North London club’s new head coach, Thomas Frank, has long been an admirer of the England international, making him a top priority in their recruitment strategy.

While Manchester City had previously eyed Gibbs-White, their recent acquisitions of Rayan Cherki and Tijjani Reijnders have seemingly cleared the path for Tottenham. However, Nottingham Forest are reluctant to part ways with their star player, having earlier valued him at a staggering £100 million. Recent reports, however, suggest a more feasible figure of £60 million, thanks to a previously overlooked release clause in his contract.

Insiders Mike McGrath and John Percy of The Telegraph reveal that Tottenham are prepared to trigger this £60 million clause, a strategic move to bypass protracted negotiations with Forest. Wolves, Gibbs-White’s former club, are set to benefit from a 10% sell-on fee included in his 2022 transfer deal.

Football transfer guru Fabrizio Romano has also weighed in, confirming that talks between the two clubs are ongoing. Gibbs-White is reportedly ‘open to the move,’ setting the stage for a potential summer switch. Romano stated on X: “After the Kudus deal, Tottenham have made a formal approach to Nottingham Forest for Morgan Gibbs-White. Official club-to-club talks are ongoing, with an opening bid expected soon, as The Athletic reported. Gibbs-White can be open to the move; it’s up to the clubs now.”

BBC Sport adds that Spurs have already initiated talks for a £60 million move while also expressing interest in Brentford’s Yoane Wissa. The report highlights: “Well-placed sources have told BBC Sport that a potential move to North London for the England international is set to accelerate in the coming days.”
