Leicester City’s relegation has created a situation where the top Premier League clubs are sniffing around the club for discount deals.

Tottenham have reportedly placed a bid close to £50 million for James Maddison and Harvey Barnes as they look to strengthen their midfield for new boss, Ange Postecoglou.

Liverpool legend John Barnes is a fan of both players, mentioning that his namesake is good enough for a Champions League level club and calling James Maddison the best number 10 in England.

Harvey Barnes is Champions League level

While Tottenham have made their interest in Harvey Barnes formal, John Barnes feels that the Leicester man would be a great fit for his former club, Newcastle.

The former Newcastle star thinks that Harvey Barnes is Champions League quality and that he can add a lot to Newcastle who’ll be rubbing shoulders with Europe’s elite clubs next season.

“I think Harvey Barnes is good enough to play in the Champions League. If it’s going to be Liverpool, Real Madrid or another club I don´t know but he has the quality to play for a very good club.”

“But he would be a great signing for Newcastle. He would be a very good addition to their squad.”

“He’s got a good energy, a great work rate and a really good understanding of the game. I think he would do a good job at Newcastle.”

James Maddison is a better Number 10 than Mason Mount

Tottenham have also made their interest in James Maddison clear, rivalling Manchester United who are also reportedly keeping tabs on the Englishman.

Barnes has backed Maddison, saying that if United want a number 10, they should go for Maddison over Mason Mount as he is the best in that role in England.

“James Maddison has the quality to play for Man United, for sure. Absolutely. He has a lot of qualities but looking at his abilities to link up with a number 9 and be the creative midfielder, I think he is the best player in England.”

“Obviously, Mason Mount is more wild and energetic than Maddison but in terms of being playing behind a striker, Maddison is better.”

“I think he would be a great signing for any club in the world, and he would do very well at Man United.”
